Not only is 2020 a leap year, but the extra day falls on a Saturday! The Mansfield Parks and Recreation Department is taking advantage of this and has scheduled a Leap Day Party at the Ocie Hill Neighborhood Center in Mansfield – it will take place on Saturday, February 29 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.

The Mansfield Art Center is providing origami frog crafts, which is a cute play on the “leap” part of the leap day theme. There will also be a DJ on hand to provide the music. Refreshments will be available as well.

This kid-friendly event is also a great opportunity to teach kids about the odd calendar event known as “Leap Year”, in which an additional day is added to the calendar every 4 years in order to account for the fact that seasons and astronomic events to not repeat in time that is measureable by whole days. Without the extra day being inserted during a Leap Year, our calendar would drift out-of-step with respect the annual events that the calendar is supposed to track.

Send us your news — of an announcement, event,
club news, fundraiser – whatever! It’s easy to do online.
