Earlier this year, Mansfield lost a local icon of the arts.

Percy Hall was many things to many people; a music educator at both Madison and Mansfield Senior High Schools; his service playing in and leading numerous music ensembles; his reach to young musicians across the country as a composer and arranger of band and orchestra music; and much more.

Earlier this month, a memorial celebration of Percy Hall’s life and legacy was held in the sanctuary of the First Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Mansfield. At that event, an ensemble of Hall family members and friends joined in playing some of his original pieces and arrangements. Several of those numbers were recorded and placed on YouTube for all Mansfielders, and all lovers of beautiful music, to enjoy.

One piece was a stirring arrangement of the hymn tune “Slane,” also known as “Be Thou My Vision.” It can be enjoyed here.
