Have you ever started out on a path, sure of where you were going, and suddenly find yourself somewhere completely different that where you thought you’d be?

Even the best of plans can sometimes misfire. As Woody Allen shared, “If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.”

This is the inspiration behind Making God Laugh, a Holiday Family Comedy by Sean Grennan, which starts later this month at the Mansfield Playhouse.

The production follows one typical American family over the course of thirty years’ worth of holidays. Starting in 1980, Ruthie and Bill’s grown children — a priest, an aspiring actress, and a former football star — all return home, where we learn of their plans and dreams as they embark on their adult lives. The empty-nester parents contend with their own changes, too, as old family rituals are trotted out and ancient tensions flare up. As time passes, the family discovers that, despite what we may have in mind, we often arrive at unexpected destinations.

The fun is on offer at 8:00 PM on April 26 and 27, and May 3 and 4; and also at 2:30 PM on May 5.
