Two Bellville Police officers were recognized for their efforts at the department’s February training night.
The recognition of 2018 Officer of the Year was awarded to Officer Thomas Queen. Chief Wiley stated that Officer Queen is our newest fulltime officer after being brought up from part time staff on January 1, 2018. Officer Queen, assigned to the second shift, has been a very active officer and has led the department in activity in 2018, including several significant drug cases. Officer Queen has also taken on a Field Training Officer role for new officers coming on to the force as well as a few extra duties above and beyond his patrol requirements.
A Life Saving Award was presented to Officer Greg Tackett (photo above). On February 24, 2018 Officer Tackett responded to a mutual aid call for the Butler Police Department. A 5 year old girl had acidentially tightened a plastic zip tie around her neck and was turning blue. Officer Tackett arrived at the residence and was able to cut away the zip tie and restore the child’s ability to breathe. Chief Willey stated that there are the things that officers respond to that often they don’t get recognized for the good that they do.
Chief Willey remarked that he appreciates the job these officers do every day to keep the community a safe place to live.
