A Mansfield business has been named recipient of an award for employee safety.

TMS International’s sites in the United States and Canada recently received a total of 49 Safety Awards from the National Slag Association (NSA) for 2015, the most of any steel mill services company.

The NSA Safety Awards recognize superior performance as measured against Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recordable injury rates. The awards were presented to the Company during the NSA’s fall meeting held in Isles of the Palm, South Carolina.

The Company’s operation in Middletown, Ohio, received the award for “2015 Most Improved Job Sites for Safety.” U.S. operations that received safety awards for “Job Sites with at Least 200,000 Hours Since Last Recordable Incident” were: Middletown, OH; Beaumont, TX; Freeport, TX; Horsham, PA; and Petersburg, VA.

U.S. operations receiving safety awards for “Lowest Incident Rate” for employees were: Alabama: Birmingham, Fairfield; Arizona: Mesa; Arkansas: Ft. Smith; Kentucky: Rush; Illinois: Chicago, Kankakee, Peoria; Indiana: Burns Harbor, East Chicago, Gary, Portage; Louisiana: Convent; Michigan: River Rouge; New York: Auburn; North Carolina: Charlotte; Ohio: Mansfield, Middletown; Oregon: McMinnville; Pennsylvania: Belle Vernon, Bridgeville, Horsham, Johnstown, New Castle, Reading; Tennessee: Gallatin, Jackson, Knoxville; Texas: Beaumont, Freeport, Jewett, Lonestar, Longview; Utah: Plymouth, Virginia: Petersburg, Wisconsin: Saukville.

Company sites in Canada receiving safety awards for “Lowest Incident Rate” for employees were: Hamilton, Ontario; Nanticoke, Ontario; and Regina, Saskatchewan.

These are the most recent awards the company has received in 2016. Earlier this year, the company received the 2016 Global Slag “Company of the Year” Award from Pro Publications International Ltd., Surrey, United Kingdom. The award recognizes superior environmental performance and was presented by the organizers of the Global Slag Conference, the world’s foremost forum for slag-related business and technical issues, according to Robert McCaffrey, Ph.D., Director, PRo Publications International Ltd..
