The Fall Color Report of TourismOhio officially places the leaves of north central Ohio at or near their peak in turning color for the season.

The indicators for Mount Gilead State Park, Malabar Farm State Park, and Mohican State Park and Forest are all marked by a burnt orange circle, which indicates that each is “near peak.”

Experts have shared that this fall’s leaves are turning at a somewhat different rate than other years. This summer’s strong fluctuations in temperature have caused trees in urban areas to change at a more rapid pace and earlier than in previous years, whereas foliage in more rural parts of the state will not complete their color transformation until late October or early November.

TourismOhio is encouraging those traveling the state to post photos of fall color to Instagram using the hashtag #ohiofall16. To date, some 95 images can be seen on the site.

The Mansfield area is seeing remarkable reds, oranges, and yellow this month. These two images show Richland County scenes from earlier this week.
