Unity In The Community Is Goal This Friday

It’s time for “Unity in the Community.”

At 5:00 PM this Friday, October 7, as many as 300 people will take a walk in the name of community unity. Beginning in Central Park, a 45 minute walk will go down Adams Street behind the Richland County Courthouse. Other events begin an hour earlier in the Park, with live music, food and drinks, recognition of leaders, a balloon launch, special music, and a dramatic presentation entitled “Recovery Road.” More…

Taste Of Home Cooking Show Coming

The Taste of Home Cooking School presented by Ohio Health returns to the Renaissance Theater in downtown Mansfield on Tuesday, October 18th at 7:00 PM with doors opening at 5:30 PM. Board Of Elections Sets Second Poll Worker Training Class

With only 22 out of a hoped-for 50 to 60 coming to an initial training session, the Richland County Board of Elections has announced the addition of a second class.

“A second round of Poll Worker training classes have been scheduled for the November 8th General Election. The class for voters who have not worked previously, or who have not previously attended a training session is scheduled for Saturday October 8th at 10:00 AM at the Longview Center, 1495 W. City of Mansfield Sets Official Trick Or Treat

Mayor Tim Theaker has announced that Trick or Treat Night for the City of Mansfield has been scheduled for Thursday, October 27, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM.

It is suggested that the participating age group of children be no older than 12. Residents wishing to participate in Trick or Treat Night are asked to turn on their porch light between the hours of 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m..

The same time is set in Shelby, Ontario, and Lexington.

The New Store Presented For Neighboring County Audience

On Monday, Julie Kleshinski, Executive Director of the Richland County Children’s Auxilary, profiled the Auxiliary’s program, The New Store, for a group of interested Crawford County civic leaders at the Galion Community Hospital.

The New Store is an effort to provide new school clothing to Richland County children in need. Started in September 2007, the store provides assistance for over 1,000 children annually.  In the last six months alone, Kleshinski said, the facility has seen 700 kids come through its doors. More…

Commissioners Promote Disability Awareness

The Richland County Commissioners have proclaimed October as Disability Employment Awareness Month. The purpose of the month is to educate the public about disability employment issues and celebrate the many and varied contributions of America’s workers with disabilities. This year’s theme is “#InclusionWorks.”

In 2015, only 17.5 percent of people with disabilities were employed, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. “Some of our nation’s most successful companies make inclusion a core value; they profit by having a wider variety of tools to confront challenges,” points out Amanda South, Richland Newhope’s Director of Adult Services. “Richland Newhope and Richland Newhope Industries, Inc. work with local school districts and businesses to support transitioning youth and adults to be prepared and successful in their job.” More…
