The Ohio State University at Mansfield awards scholarships each year to new and returning students. Applications for scholarships are open until March 1, 2021. Students who are interested in applying for a scholarship should review the qualification information here.

Students finance their college education in a number of ways including a part-time job, financial aid or loans. Scholarships also play a key role in helping many students lower the cost of their total investment in earning a degree.

Linda Cho, a freshman biology student at The Ohio State University at Mansfield, has received scholarships from The Ohio State University Alumni Club of Richland County and the Ohio State Mansfield Scholarship Endowment Fund.

“By reducing the increasing financial burden of a college education, I was given more time to focus on my studies and the opportunity to focus on a well-rounded college experience,” Cho said.

In addition to her studies, Cho was able to participate in the theatre program as a light board operator. This spring, she helped with the lighting for the American and English-language premiere of an Italian musical called “Back to the Divine Comedy.”

“My favorite thing to do so far as a Buckeye is attending all the school events available. It is a very fun opportunity and a great experience for students,” she explained.

Another scholarship recipient who has thrived is recent graduate Antwan Woods. Before completing his bachelor’s degree in social work, Woods served as a student trustee on the Ohio State Mansfield Board of Trustees and was also involved in the student veterans’ group.

Woods received the John S. Jordan Scholarship. Created to honor the legacy of John S. Jordan, who served as the Public Works Director for the City of Mansfield and as a member of the Ohio State Mansfield Board of Trustees, this scholarship is for new or returning minority students and is based on academic and leadership potential.

“I honestly thought I would never receive a scholarship, even though I had applied for them,” Woods shared. “I had been out of high school so long and was not required to take the SAT or ACT exam. Many scholarships are based on these things. I am delighted at having been awarded this scholarship and recognized for my leadership abilities.”

Woods said the Mansfield campus is great because of the individualized attention in the classroom and the personal relationships that can be built with faculty.

“Ohio State Mansfield is great for people who desire to complete the specific degree programs that are offered at the Mansfield campus and a great pathway to the Columbus campus for others,” he added.

Junior early childhood education major Hannah Beck agreed.

“It is the best-kept secret in Ohio,” Beck enthusiastically said. “It has a small-town feel but offers a chance to earn an Ohio State degree. It can’t get much better!”

Beck, who received a scholarship from the Ohio State Mansfield Scholarship Endowment Fund, hopes to teach in the Mansfield area after graduation. She values the lifelong relationships she has built during her time at Ohio State.

“I have learned so much at Ohio State Mansfield and have created so many relationships that will be there forever,” Beck said.

Freshman business major JC Mangan, a recipient of the received the Access Challenge Scholarship this year is grateful for the ability to focus on his studies.

“The scholarship I received allowed me to reduce the number of hours I needed to work during school, which gave me time to focus on my studies,” Mangan said. “I hope to someday be in a similar position to pay it forward.”

Mangan has enjoyed his experience so much that he hopes that his younger siblings will follow his lead and attend Ohio State Mansfield in the future.

More than 200 students received scholarships this year at The Ohio State Mansfield, helping them to reduce their investment in a college education and giving them the ability to focus on their future.
