Have you ever heard of The Company Line?

In honor of Black History Month, and as a way to kick off the speaker series of the African American Leadership Initiative (AALI), Andrew Sewell of Lawhon & Associates will talk about a unique piece of local history: The Company Line, Mansfield’s first African American neighborhood.

Andrew will present his research about the former Company Line neighborhood, tell us all about this rich piece of Mansfield history, and show us artifacts from the archaeological excavation. He will talk about the development of this former Black working class neighborhood and its connection to the rest of Mansfield.

The neighborhood was situated on the north side of town not far from the steel mill.

Make no mistake about it, this is a unique example of archaeology practiced on a 20th century site and a piece of local history often referred to but rarely explored.

The presentation will be Monday, February 11 from 12-1:30 PM at the North End Community Improvement Collaborative, Inc., at 134 N Main St, Mansfield OH 44902. Tickets are required and can be purchased through the NECIC website.
