The first day of school for Mansfield City Schools students will be Monday, Aug. 21.

When the 2017-2018 calendar was approved by the board of education in February professional development days for teachers and staff — when students are not in school — had not been determined.

Professional development is a key component of the district’s comprehensive plan to meet the Ohio Department of Education’s specific guidelines for achieving school improvement. Three of the six professional development days scheduled for 2017-2018 have been set before the start of school – Aug. 15, 16 and 17 – to lessen disruption during the year. Aug. 18 will be a teacher work day for setting up classrooms.

The last day of the first three grading periods also will be non-student days to check progress toward the district’s school improvement goals. Those dates are Friday, Oct. 13; Wednesday, Dec. 20, and Friday, March 9.

Tyger Time two-hour delays are eliminated for 2017-2018. Two-hour delays for inclement weather will be implemented if necessary.
