From the Mansfield Division of Police:

On the evening of February 15, 2018, the Mansfield Division of Police was made aware of a social media post which made reference to a potential school shooting in our city.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit were immediately notified and investigated the possible threat to our community. During the course of the investigation, it was learned that the post was made by a 17 year old juvenile who lives outside of Richland County and currently does not attend any schools within our county. The local law enforcement agency where the juvenile lives was contacted.

Through our investigation and with the assistance of the other law enforcement agency, the threat was found not to be credible. The Richland County Prosecutor’s office is currently reviewing the case for possible criminal charges.
