As the old saying goes, “those who fail to plan, plan to fail.” If that is true, count the folks at the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library among those who should expect success.
The Library has released its 2018-2019 Strategic Plan, an operational blueprint for the next two years. Noting that the institution has long realized the importance of planning, the new plan emphasizes mission, values, vision, and strategic goals.
To create the plan, the Library turned to both staff and the community at large. This was followed by a Board retreat to consider results and create the final product.
Those strategic goals include:
- Foster customer relationships. This will involve making customers the priority, identifying community needs, and stressing open communication.
- Expand opportunities to new populations. Expansion will take place through reaching underserved populations, looking for ways to engage the community, and cultivating library ambassadors.
- Share the library story externally and internally. Once the story is defined, the next task is to find ways to share it effectively, and to make certain staff are able to do the same.
- Inspire staff excellence. To do so, the Library will define, model, and support excellence.
