Walk To Stop Hunger On October 2

Walkers from 16 churches will gather at Mansfield’s Central Park on Sunday, Oct. 2 for this year’s Church World Service CROP Walk. Registration starts at 1:30 PM. The goal is to raise $15,000 to help stop hunger.

Sponsored by the Mansfield Inter-Church Council, the group will step off at 2:00 PM from the gazebo going west on Park Avenue to South Park, south on Brinkerhoff to Maple, east to Marion and back to Park Avenue, ending at the Richland Carrousel Park. Richland County’s Newest Dog Park Opening This Weekend

Ontario’s new Maize Memorial Dog Park will have its Grand Opening on Saturday, October 1 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM (rain date of October 8th). Not only will there be a ribbon-cutting with the City Council of Ontario and Mayor Randy Hutchinson, but they will officially unveil their new sign recognizing the dog park and major sponsors who made the dog park possible. There will be dog training demonstrations, a K9 unit demonstration, and a talk on dog park etiquette. Happy Shack Pizza and Kona-Ice will be at the event along with various vendors. More…

Apple Hill Orchards Kids Day Is Next Sunday

As October is ushered in, so are opportunities for families to enjoy the colors, food, and sounds of autumn.

One such occasion is Kids Day at Apple Hill Orchards. On Sunday, October 2 from noon to 6:00 PM, enjoy a petting zoo, scavenger hunt hayrides, pick-your-own apples and pumpkins, face painting, cider pressing, pony rides, a food booth, and more. Also included are a big tractor and balloon man for little ones.

Parking is available for $5 per vehicle. More…

Landmarks of Mansfield: Central United Methodist Church

The former Central United Methodist Church on Park Avenue West, now the Bethesda Fellowship Ministry Center, was dedicated on August 21, 1911.

It was designed by Vernon Redding, Mansfield’s best known and most prolific architect of his era, who was also the architect for the Leland Hotel and Carnegie Library building. Because of its heavy stone massing, it has been described as being of the Richardson Romanesque style, but its sloping roof with exposed truss ends, as well as its date of construction, suggests Arts and Crafts influences as well.
