Kingwood Center invites you to step out into the sunshine this winter and experience the crisp and cold air in a beautiful setting.
Kingwood is offering Winter Wellness Walks on Wednesday mornings through the end of next month. They begin each Wednesday at 11 AM.
Sessions begin with a ¾ mile trek on the grounds and end with a 10 minute long stretch session focusing on improving muscle tone, flexibility, and range of motion. The total experience lasts about 45 minutes.

More and more Ohioans are walking and biking as a way to travel, either by choice or necessity. However, recent trends in safety, health, and demographics highlight the urgent need for safer, accessible, and more convenient options for walking and biking in communities across the state. In an effort to combat these trends and spur more strategic investment in infrastructure for pedestrians and bicyclists, the Ohio Department of Transportation is launching the first-of-its-kind Walk.Bike.Ohio plan. The Ohio Department of Transporation (ODOT) has been talking what it calls “active modes of transportation” as of late — walking and biking in particular.
To that end, the Department has taken research into these areas and input from meetings with stakeholders and created a plan of action. You are now invited to join in that process.
ODOT has released Walk.Bike.Ohio, Ohio’s first statewide plan for active modes of transportation. The themes, strategies and action steps contained in Walk.Bike.Ohio will address the plan’s goals of safety, equity, network connectivity, network utilization, preservation and quality of life. So many of our residents depend on walking or bicycling to remain mobile and connected; and so many also are choosing and prioritizing healthy, sustainable lifestyles. More…
“Hemlock Falls: History and Lore” walkers will visit the falls and nearby rock formations in a two-hour, morning walk, led and narrated by Alan Wigton of the Richland County Historical Society. The walk will take place on Saturday, April 20 from 10 AM to 12 Noon. More…
Dozens of people from Richland County and beyond took part Friday in the 2nd Annual Step Into Spring Fun Walk at the Richland Mall.
The free event culminated local activities to mark March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. There was no required walking distance, although participants were encouraged to do at least two laps inside the mall or the equivalent of one mile. More…

Richland Public Health’s “Winter Hike for Health” on Saturday, February 10 will be in two locations. In addition to the traditional hike at Malabar Farm State Park, Gorman Nature Center in Mansfield is joining in the day’s healthy fun.

Walking in winter weather, including snow and ice, is something that people either have to do or like to do. But as Richland Public Health recently shared, be aware of the unique safety hazards associated with winter weather while “walking in a winter wonderland.”
In Ohio in 2016, driving in snow or freezing rain caused 13,5894 crashes that included 26 fatalities and 3,623 injuries. 140 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes that year although not all were weather-related. More…
