5 Feb , 2022

By 1812Blockhouse

Is it possible to have too much of a good thing?

In the case of Ohio’s premier ski resort, the answer this week was… yes.

Normally, reports of impending snowfall are welcomed at Snow Trails as indicators that good skiing is ahead. In order to ski, however, visitors have to be able to reach the facility. When Winter Storm Landon triggered a Level Three Snow Emergency for several hours, however, that wasn’t the case.

10 Jan , 2022

By 1812Blockhouse

According to the Snow Report on Sunday morning, Ohio’s premier ski resort has largely machine made, groomed snow. The crew was working hard that day and so some trails, lifts, and special features were offline for short periods of time. Terrain Park Features are set up in the Alpine Park.

Not all special features are online at present; on Sunday, only the Rustler and The Chute runs were closed.

Update: Opening Day Still Up In The Air, But May Be Coming Soon

15 Dec , 2020

By 1812Blockhouse

There’s something in the air — in addition to the cold temperatures, that is — that suggests that the Opening Date for Snow Trail’s magic 60th anniversary season will be here soon.

The ski resort’s Snow Report, issued on Monday evening, describes what goes into the determination of when to open. “Snowmaking resumed today at 1PM and will run through the night! Thankful to see the forecast allow for snowmaking to continue nightly this week! Some temps are forecasted to be marginal with high humidity, so we can’t make a determination on Opening Day just yet. To build the base of snow needed we look for multiple productive nights of snowmaking at or below 29F and 60% Relative Humidity, otherwise production can be limited.” More…
