Okay, Richland County – Wednesday does not just mark the beginning of a new year, but also a new decade. Sure, you could focus on goals to lose weight, exercise more, eat better…we won’t argue with whatever targets you want to set for yourself. But we’ve come up with a list of 5 resolutions that are just for our community – see how many you can tackle in 2020:

Re-visit a local place that has special meaning to you. Maybe this is somewhere you used to frequently go, or just a place that holds a warm-and-fuzzy memory for you. Give yourself the opportunity to remember the past and, in the same way, look to the future promise of the new year.

Find new local music to love. There are so many great local acts to get to know. One way to find them is through Richland Source’s Noah Jones and his “The Open Mic” podcast, in which he interviews singers, songwriters and musicians, including local favorites. Or find live music using the #RichlandLive hashtag to search on social media.

Visit one local landmark you haven’t been to before. If you are one of those Richland Countians who has not yet been to (for example) Oak Hill Cottage, or to the top of Mt. Jeez, or to the Richland County Museum in Lexington, resolve to make it happen in 2020. This is a great way to get in touch with the place that we all call home.

Visit one local park. Destination Mansfield – Richland County has a handy webpage to help you find a local park, which is an easy way to spend some time in nature. There are interesting features to see and experience in any local park, no matter what season it is, and being outdoors has been shown to help decrease stress levels.

Visit one local eating establishment. There are plenty of chain restaurants in Richland County, but the list of independent, local restaurants is growing and they are definitely worth your attention. We recommend finding one that you haven’t visited before and giving it a try. Here’s a link to a curated list of some options.
