The 6th through 8th grade Academic Challenge teams wrapped up their season this month at Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center. Students competed as teams, answering questions about a wide range of topics including literature, fine arts, geography, history, math, and science.

On May 9th, twenty teams participated in the 6th Grade Academic Challenge meet. There was fierce competition throughout each of the matches and Lexington Team A was  victorious. Team members of the first place team were led by Dr. Berry, and the team comprised of students Jesse S., Noah T., Dominic G., and Sirar G. There was a tie for second place between Mansfield City Spanish Immersion Team A and Wooster City Team A. Coach Angel Sanchez Navarro worked with the Mansfield City Spanish Immersion Team A, which comprised of Juliana Pacheco, Aubri Crider, Liam McCumiskey, Jersie Palmer, and Zoe Axiopoulos. Wooster City A included members Casey Howard, James Zhuang, Loudon Russell, Noah Greene, Mackenze Vick, and Aryan Tankala, coached by Kim Miller.

On May 10th, 32 teams participated in the 7th/8th Grade Academic Challenge. Colonel Crawford County’s team of six talented students earned a first place ranking. Coach Lori Carmen led the following students to victory: Jaylee Kragh, Lexi Rankin, Seamus Comerford, Dalton Rankin, and Owen Bland. The Lexington B team, led by Coach Jeniffer Law, came in second place by only a narrow 15-point margin and consisted of students Maddox L., Tony P., Nathan M., Braelon I., and Gianna B.

Academic Challenge coordinator Leanna Ferreira said it is fun to see the level and intensity of competition. “We had another fantastic year, this one marked with very close competitions at all levels! What a joy to see so many students enjoying academics and showcasing their talents!”
