The Mansfield Police Department (MPD) Fund, created by Merris and Jean Welge in 2017 through the Richland County Foundation, is offering a unique opportunity to double your impact on local law enforcement. From now until December 2, donations to the MPD Fund will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $10,000, thanks to the generous challenge match from the Welges.
A Legacy of Support
Merris Welge spent 25 years working in Downtown Mansfield, witnessing the dedication and bravery of local police officers firsthand. He and his wife, Jean, have always admired how these officers put themselves at risk daily to ensure the safety of their community. Their creation of the MPD Fund at the Richland County Foundation is a testament to their commitment to supporting law enforcement in ways beyond traditional taxation.
The Impact of Your Donation
The specific use of the MPD Fund is determined by Chief of Police Jason Bammann, in collaboration with the Foundation. Previously, the fund has been instrumental in purchasing a de-escalation simulator to train officers, enhancing their ability to manage high-stress situations effectively and safely.
How to Contribute
Donating to the MPD Fund is straightforward:
- Online: Click the donate button on the Richland County Foundation website and select the Mansfield Police Department Fund from the dropdown box.
- By Check: Write a check to the Richland County Foundation and note “Mansfield Police Department Fund” on the memo line.
Join the Welges in Their Vision
Merris and Jean Welge’s vision for the MPD Fund is to foster community involvement and support for local law enforcement. They hope their challenge match will inspire others to contribute, showing appreciation for the dedication and service of the Mansfield Police Department.
