Although quiet is generally preferred, there’s occasionally a good reason to make noise in a library.

Case in point – over the next four weeks, the Main Library of the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library will host “January Fanfare,” which will present four musical soloists and groups in concert. This annual event is a thank you by the MRCPL to the residents of Richland County for their support. As with other music programs, it is supported by the Friends of the Library.

This year’s concerts include the following, all taking place on successive Sundays at 2:00 PM:

January 8 – Amati String Quartet — This popular group plays a variety of music including pop, show tunes and light classical.

January 15 – Guitarist and Songwriter Kelly Vaughn — Kelly Vaughn will perform a variety of cover songs along with her own songs. Her beautiful, unique voice combined with solid and varied guitar playing will touch your soul.

January 22 – Lanny Gooding and Paul Martin — Come listen to songs from movies and Broadway shows from the 1930s thru the 1960s written by George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers and Duke Ellington; and Bossa Novas from the 1960s by Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos Jobim.

January 29 – Just Jazz — JustJazz consists of saxophone, guitar, trumpet/vocals – bringing a simple yet authentic approach to the only true American art form – JAZZ! This group is Tom Blair- saxophone/flute, Britt Reed- guitar, Jeff Boyd-trumpet/ vocals and Kelly Knowlton-vocals.
