Elevating the Gingerbread Game

The Mansfield Art Center is redefining the holiday tradition of gingerbread house-making. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill, sugar-laden construction. Instead, the center is offering an advanced class in crafting a 3D gingerbread house made entirely of stained glass. This unique creation is designed to be a lasting family heirloom, transcending the ephemeral nature of its edible counterparts.

The Art of Precision

Creating this glass masterpiece is no small feat. The house, when completed, will stand 11 inches tall, span 8 inches wide, and have a depth of 10 inches. It will be composed of 268 individual pieces of glass, available in eight different colors. While the base colors are predetermined, participants have the creative liberty to choose the colors for the window and door frames, as well as decorative nuggets, making each house truly unique.

The First Cut is the Deepest

The first class session is crucial. Participants will cut oblong glass gems that will later be fused in a kiln. This process allows these pieces to be seamlessly incorporated into the house’s roof, adding an extra layer of intricacy to the project. The Stained Glass Studio at the Mansfield Art Center is known for offering a diverse range of projects to enrich your glassworking skills, and this workshop is no exception.

Flexible Payment and Practical Details

Understanding that art is an investment, the center offers a flexible payment plan. A $60 deposit is required to secure your spot, followed by three bi-weekly payments of $74.23. The workshop runs for four Saturdays from 1:00 to 4:00 pm, starting on November 4th and concluding on December 2nd, 2023. The cost for members is $257, while non-members will be charged $282.70. The class is led by Pia Douglas, and participants are reminded to bring a dishcloth for drying their pieces. For any questions, you can contact Pia at [email protected].

This isn’t just another holiday activity; it’s an opportunity to create a lasting piece of art. With its intricate design and personal touches, this 3D gingerbread house is set to become a cherished family heirloom, passed down through generations.
