A visit to the website of the Richland County Board of Elections, hours after the close of petition filing for partisan races, showed the following as registered candidates for elected positions with the City of Mansfield. This will be the slate unless other petitions are recognized and/or a write-in candidate or candidates appear.

The contests are highlighted by what now appears to be a five-way race to replace current Mansfield Mayor Tim Theaker. That includes four candidates in the Republican primary and one potential candidate in the Democratic primary; the winners of each will face each other in November. Included in that mix are current officeholders and political newcomers.

If the filed Democratic candidate’s petitions are not recognized, the May primary will choose the next mayor unless, again, a write-in candidate enters.

Primary contests are also going to take place for the Republican candidate for Director of Finance and the Democratic candidate for Director of Law.

Those who filed petitions are as follows. Each is marked “valid” by the Board of Elections with two exceptions — one petition is pending review and another was filed and withdrawn; both are noted. To show no party affiliation preference, we will alternate which party’s candidate(s) is(are) listed first, with the current Mayoral incumbent’s party listed first.

1812Blockhouse will share updates to the official primary ballot list as any are made.
