A tragic situation earlier today at a Mansfield McDonald’s resulted in a fatality.

The Mansfield Division of Police shared this statement late this afternoon:

“This afternoon at approximately 12:27 PM, the Mansfield Division of Police responded to an injury crash at the McDonald’s restaurant located at 540 North Trimble Road.

Upon the arrival of the first responders, a 69 year old white male driver of a 1995 Ford F-150 pick-up truck was found unresponsive in the drive-thru area of the business. The victim was injured after striking a steel post, while in the lane of the drive-thru. The victim suffered injuries to his upper extremities and was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other occupants were in the victim’s vehicle at the time of the crash.

There was no indication at the scene that alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the crash and toxicology results will be pending an autopsy. No additional information is available at this time as the crash remains under investigation.

We are asking that anyone who may have witnessed the crash and were not interviewed to please contact Mansfield Police at (419) 755-9724 and ask for Sergeant Paul Lumadue or a shift supervisor.”

According to a story in the Columbus Dispatch, preliminary reports from Mansfield Police suggest that the man may have dropped change, opened the door to retrieve it, and got caught between his car and the steel pole.
