The Associated Press reported on Monday that several members of the Mansfield News Journal staff are finalists in the Ohio Associated Press Media Editors’ 2017 newspaper contest. Some 1,922 entries were received; winners will be announced at a March Awards Banquet in Columbus.

News Journal finalists (in the category for newspapers with circulations between 19,000 and 59,999) include:

  • Best Feature Writer: Mark Caudill
  • Best Sports Columnist: Jon Spencer
  • Best Sports Feature Writer: Jon Spencer
  • Best Sports Writer: Connor Casey; Jon Spencer
  • Best Photographer: Jason J. Molyet
  • Best News Photo: Jason J. Molyet, “Fighting Fire and Water”; Jason J. Molyet, “Here, Piggy!”
  • Best Explanatory Reporting: Emily Mills, “Mohican-Memorial Forest Plan”;
  • Best Digital Presence: Mansfield News Journal
