The Mansfield Symphony Orchestra will present its fourth concert of the 2017-2018 OhioHealth Symphony Series, “The Planets” this Saturday, February 10 at 8 PM at the Renaissance Theatre. Under the direction of Octavio Más-Arocas, the event will feature a program anchored by Gustav Holst’s masterwork, “The Planets.”

“The Planets is powerful, breathtaking, beautiful and outright thrilling. We are extremely excited to share this music and the rest of this program with the talented musicians of the Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra. This concert will not only celebrate fantastic music that is out of this world, but also the future generation of talented musicians,” reflects Más-Arocas.

The Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra, under the direction of Randy Heidlebaugh, will join the symphony. Together the groups will perform “Hungarian March,” by Berlioz, “Hungarian Dance, No. 6,” by Brahms, and “Nimrod” from Enigma Variations by Elgar. The Youth Orchestra is composed of 75 student musicians primarily in grades 9 through 12 from the following schools: Ashland, Clearfork, Colonel Crawford, Galion, Home School, Lexington, Mansfield St. Peter’s, Mapleton, Mt. Vernon, Ontario, River Valley, Willard Intermediate, Wooster, and Wynford.

Prior to the event, music historian Mark Sebastian Jordan will host Symphony Chat in the second floor ballroom of the Renaissance Theatre. These popular free pre-show events offer insights to the program, stories about the pieces and the composers, as well as highlighting significant moments in the repertoire.

Tickets are on sale now for this concert at the Renaissance Box Office, via phone at (419) 522-2726, and online at MansfieldTickets.com. A limited number of $50 Family Four Pack tickets as well as $10 student tickets are available for this event only by visiting or calling the Renaissance Box Office. Full-price tickets range from $15 to $39. The Mansfield Symphony’s “The Planets” concert is presented in part thanks to funding from the Ohio Arts Council.
