The folks at Just Walk Richland are combining physical exercise with sensory stimulation through a weekly series of walks though the changing Richland County spring landscape.

It’s an opportunity to walk woodland trails to observe and enjoy Ohio’s beautiful spring wildflowers. You are encouraged to bring a guidebook, a journal (for drawing, making notes), a magnifier, and a camera (all optional). Come each week as nature shows us her ever-changing display.

This is a family-friendly event taking place each Tuesday at 6:00 PM beginning this evening and running through May 15.

Walkers will take one of two paths. On March 27, April 10, April 24, and May 8, participants will meet at the Clear Fork Valley Trailhead parking area located at the Clear Fork Adventure Resort, 342 Resort Drive in Butler. The trailhead is next to the parking lot. Coordinates 40.495017. -82.409063.

Then, on April 3, April 17, May 1, and May 15, meet at First Congregational Church’s Hemlock Trails church camp which is located on Bunkerhill North Road, between Butler Newville Road (runs along the river) and Tugend Road. This location is 0.9 mile south of OH-95. A sign will be posted at the entrance into the gravel driveway on the east side of Bunkerhill. Please arrive before 6:00, as the gate will be closed once the walk begins.

Each walk will take approximately two hours to go approximately two to three miles. The pace will be “conversational,” with an uneven surface and some hills.

Walkers are encouraged to bring any or all of the optional gear listed above, Good traction athletic footwear (waterproof as needed), something to sit or kneel upon on damp ground, a light backpack to carry your stuff, a walking stick/pole to help navigate the trail, tick spray/repellant (also, tuck pants into socks), thinner layers of outdoor wear, depending on anticipated temperature (especially important for cold-weather hiking)m and light rain gear just in case.

Updates and any cancellations will be posted on the Just Walk Richland Facebook page.
