The Mansfield Symphony continues its season Saturday, February 12 at 8:00 pm with “The Titan,” a Side by Side concert with members of the Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra (MSYO) that will be performed onstage at the Renaissance Theatre.
The Mansfield Symphony presents a concert side by side with members of the Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra, performing Mahler’s “Titan” Symphony No. 1, a lush piece of well-known classical repertoire featuring innovative themes, including the use of the string bass on an iconic “Frère Jacques” solo.

Mansfield Symphony Orchestra’s concertmaster Victor Beyens gave a masterclass this Friday May 14 on the Renaissance Theater stage.
Mr. Beyens is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music where he studied with David Updegraff and William Preucil. Four High School Violinists from the Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra (MSYO) had the opportunity to perform in the class and observe a Symphony Rehearsal under the leadership of Octavio Mas-Arocas. Victor Beyens was featured as a guest artist performing the Bruch Violin Concerto.
Students performing in the class included: Faith Kaschube (Saint Saens Violin Concerto No. 1, Mvt. I); Joseph Litao (Ziegeunerweisen by Sarasate); Thomas Secrist (Barber Violin Concerto, Mvt. I); and Ella Schag (Mendelssohn Violin Concerto Mvt. I). MSYO Conductor Stephen Domka accompanied on the piano and the Renaissance Theatre sponsored the event. More…

The annual Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition recently took place at Mansfield 1st Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Performing in the competition were local musicians: Samuel Prinz, Viola; Joseph Litao, Violin; and Ella Schag, Violin. Josh Bowman, strings teacher from Avon Lake, and Mike Sieberg, a violinist of Ashland Symphony, served as adjudicators. Ella Schag was chosen as the winner.
The daughter of Joseph and Keely Schag, Ella is a senior at Willard High School where she is concertmaster of the orchestra, member of the Symphonic Choir and Chamber Choir. She is also the captain of the Academic Challenge team, and varsity singles player for the Lady Flashes tennis program. More…

The Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra is pleased to announce Stephen Domka as its new conductor beginning in the 2020-21 Season.
After 10 years, Randy Heidelbaugh is retiring from leading the group in order to pursue other opportunities. Heidelbaugh remarked, “I want to take this opportunity to thank the entire staff at the Renaissance Theatre for all the great work they do for the performing arts in north-central Ohio. The Mansfield Symphony Orchestra will present its fourth concert of the 2019-2020 OhioHealth Symphony Series, “Revolutions” on Saturday, February 8 at 8:00 PM at the Renaissance Theatre in Mansfield, Ohio. Under the direction of Octavio Más-Arocas, the event will feature a program celebrating Russian-themed masterworks of some of the world’s greatest composers.
The Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra, under the direction of Randy Heidlebaugh, will join the symphony. Together, the groups will perform Sibelius’ Finlandia, “Bacchanale” from Saint-Saens’ Samson and Delilah, and end with the rousing, revolutionary Shostakovich Symphony No. 12. More…

Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra and Youth String auditions for new members will be held on June 4, 5, and 6 from 3:30-7:00 PM at Lexington High School, 103 Clever Lane in Lexington.
First organized in 1982, the Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra and Youth Strings program includes students from over 20 schools, representing Richland, Ashland, Crawford, Wayne, Morrow, Huron, Marion, Holmes, Seneca, and Wyandot counties. It is the only youth orchestra program in this part of Ohio. More…

The talented local youth who make up the Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra will give their spring performance entitled “Pomp and Circumstance” at the Renaissance Theatre under the direction of Randy Heidlebaugh on Sunday, May 6 at 3:00 PM.
The concert will feature the winners of the Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition, flutist Mary Longsdorf of Ashland High School, performing Concertino for Flute and Orchestra by Cecile Chaminade and Wyatt Boggs, a percussionist from Clearfork High School, performing his original work, Percussion Concerto No. 1. Other selections featured on the concert will be Zampa Overture by L. J. Herold; Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1 by Edward Elgar; St. Paul’s Suite, Mvt. 4 by Holst; and On Top of the World by Brian Balmages. More…
The Mansfield Symphony Youth Strings will perform their spring concert under the baton of director Matt Domka on Sunday, March 25 at 3:00 p.m. on the stage of the Renaissance Theatre. The program consists of both contemporary and classical repertoire, featuring a Haydn suite alongside contemporary film and Broadway favorites, including Arlen’s “Over the Rainbow,” Sondheim’s “Send in the Clowns,” and music from Star Wars. The Mansfield Symphony Orchestra will present its fourth concert of the 2017-2018 OhioHealth Symphony Series, “The Planets” this Saturday, February 10 at 8 PM at the Renaissance Theatre. Under the direction of Octavio Más-Arocas, the event will feature a program anchored by Gustav Holst’s masterwork, “The Planets.”
