When the runners crossed the finish line at last week’s FirstEnergy Akron Marathon, it was a pair of Mansfield sisters who finished first and third.

This is all the more remarkable considering that some 343 women finished the entire race.

According to its website, “Since 2003, the FirstEnergy Akron Marathon, Half Marathon, & Team Relay has brought world-class running to the heart of the heartland.” The event benefits Akron Children’s Hospital, and features a course which traverses Akron neighborhoods and downtown – and then finishes in Canal Park Stadium at a “Finishers’ Festival.”

As a USATF Certified Course, the 26.2 mile event serves as a qualifier for the Boston Marathon.

In the Women’s race, the top finisher was Emma Mccarron of Mansfield, who finished at 2:52:28. Emma’s sister Grace Mccarron was third with a time of 2:54:10. Emma’s time placed her at 11th overall.
