From the Mansfield Division of Police:

The Mansfield Division of Police is proud to announce the posting of new signs at four entryways into the city of Mansfield recognizing the founding of the “Safety Town” program here in 1937. The signs were made possible by the continued support of local businesses and labor unions in an effort to recognize the “80th Anniversary” of this instrumental safety program which has been duplicated throughout the nation as well as several countries.

Started in 1937 by Mansfield Police Officer Frend Boals, the “Safety Town” program is based on an educational platform designed to provide pre-kindergarten children with valuable traffic and personal safety tips and awareness. Over the years, the program has been sponsored by the Mansfield Division of Police and funded by private donations. This generous support by local business, individuals, and labor unions has enabled the “Safety Town” program to continue without any costs to the participant’s families.

The Mansfield Division of Police would like to recognize those sponsors who have contributed not only to the new signs but have continually supported the “Safety Town” program for many years. They are the AFL-CIO (American Federation of Labor–Congress of Industrial Organizations), Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #32, IKORCC (Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters) Local #735, and the Mansfield Fire Museum.
