A Voice for the Voiceless

A mother, wife, student, advocate – Oh the many roles she owns!

1812Blockhouse continues our series celebrating Women’s History Month by sharing a couple of stories of current individuals who have overcome much to place themselves in a position to survive, thrive, and make their own history. This is the first of those posts.

“When I was younger, I was every statistic you could think of; I was a teen mom, a high school drop-out, I grew up low-income, we bounced around from state-to-state, house-to-house. I was a troubled teenager. I wanted to break that cycle”.

Balancing many responsibilities comes with its challenges, but upcoming Ohio State Mansfield graduate Nicole Cline persevered through adversity. Being awarded the Fran Rupp Scholarship delivered Nicole a peace of mind during unprecedented times in our world, by giving her the opportunity to pursue her career aspirations of being a Social Worker.

“I want to give a voice to the voiceless and work specifically with juveniles who society has given up on”

Nicole is passionate about being the light in the darkest parts of society by motivating others that it is never too late to become someone you can be proud of! Raising four boys gave her the ambition to pursue her dreams and becoming a phenomenal role model her children can look up to.

Nicole interned at Abraxas Youth Center where she facilitated group therapy sessions to inspire and uplift adolescent boys. During this experience, she started a project advocating for therapy dogs to essentially provide additional emotional support. Sure enough, her hard work and determination paid off through witnessing the success of her idea come to life.

“OSU helped me accomplish this”- What she appreciates the most at the Mansfield campus is the relationships she built with life-long friends, professors, and advisors. During college, Nicole developed true and authentic connections which has played a big role in her career development.
