The Mansfield Department of Police, through Chief Kenneth Coontz, has issued the following News Release:

Officer Jack H. Shay announced his retirement from the Mansfield Division of Police effective February 3, 2017. Officer Shay was appointed to the department on December 11. 1995. Prior to his appointment to the department he served twenty years in the U.S. Air Force.

As a new Patrol Officer for the Mansfield Police Department he was assigned to the Patrol Section, and continued in the Patrol Section until his transfer to the Community Policing Section as the department’s D.A.R.E. Officer. He was assigned to the Malabar Intermediate School where he taught the middle school students to avoid drugs, membership in gangs, and violent behavior over the next fifteen years. During this time was also in charge of running the D.A.R.E. Olympics each spring.

Officer Shay’s retirement represents a loss to the Mansfield Division of Police and culminates a career that has exemplified the best qualities of a law enforcement professional. He is known for his hard work, dedication, initiative, and positive attitude toward his work, co-workers, citizens, and the students. He has received numerous Special Commendation Awards and letters of recognition.

Jack has our congratulations upon his retirement and our heartfelt thanks for his many years of loyal service. We wish him to greatest success and happiness in the future.

Everyone is invited to a farewell reception for Jack on Tuesday, January 31 at 11:30 hours at the Malabar Auditorium Intermediate School, 205 West Cook Road.
