Special to 1812Blockhouse

The Pearl Conard Gallery and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at Ohio State Mansfield are proud to present Power versus Power, an exhibition by Baltimore-based artist Kumasi J. Barnett.

Influenced by the aesthetics and narratives of comic books, his work subverts and imbues the timeless genre with a present day social consciousness. Power versus Power will showcase comic books that Barnett has directly painted over, changing their narratives into critiques of social and political issues including police brutality, systemic racism, fake news, and our political system.

Barnett’s work has been exhibited internationally and been featured in publications such as Artforum and Hyperallergic. He is currently represented by Lowell Ryan Projects.

Power versus Power will run Monday, February 21 – Friday, March 11. The gallery hours are Monday–Friday from 11:30 AM – 3:30 PM (please note that the gallery is staffed by students, so hours may shift. Email Professor Kate Shannon at [email protected] to make an appointment to see the space).

In addition, Barnett will give a Zoom talk on Thursday, March 3 from 12:35 – 1:30 pm. Click here to join the Zoom talk. Password: Power
