The wide range of offerings at the Renaissance Theatre turns to young people in February, and in particular the Renaissance Youth Opera Theatre.

On February 4 at 7:00 PM, and again on February 5 at 2:30 PM, the RYOT will be staging two works – first, Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Gondoliers, and second, the story of Pinocchio.

The Gondoliers, the full title of which is “The Gondoliers; or, the King of Barataria” is a comic opera that premiered in 1889. It was so popular at the time that it ran for an amazing 554 performances before closing almost two years later. Set in the canals of Venice, it was the last great success for Gilbert and Sullivan.

The local performance is under the direction of Lori Turner. The General Admission ticket price is $15.

Recently, Turner and Dauphne Maloney, Mansfield Youth Theatre Director, sat down for a chat that turned into the latest edition of the Renaissance Podcast. Both discussed “…their love for the performing arts, why they love working with youth in a performance setting, and what distinguishes their programs” according to the podcast website.
