On Tuesday, the Mansfield Art Center joined those cultural institutions which have reopened to the public after a multi-week COVID-19 caused closure.

The Center, housed in an award-winning glass and wood building and sitting on 8.5 wooded acres, will be open from 11 AM until 4 PM each Tuesday through Sunday. All guests will be required to wear masks, and social distancing rules will apply for all.

Celebrating the reopening, the Center will host the 2020 Ohio Plein Air Society Exhibition beginning this coming Sunday, June 28. The Society is a group of artists that explore art through the diversity and uniqueness of Ohio’s landscapes, cityscapes, and waterways. The exhibition will continue through July 26.

This year’s juror, Larry Churski, chose 135 works from those submitted for consideration.

Several different media are represented, including watercolor, acrylic, pastel, oil, and gouache.

“Plein Air” is a French term signifcying painted works which are created in the outdoor, with the subject directly visible to the artist. It is perhaps best typified by Impressionist painters who captured landscapes, cityscapes, and more first-hand.
