The Ohio State University offers a unique program for rising high school seniors who are high achieving, as well as first-generation, rural and/or underrepresented minority students, designed give them an idea of college life and to help them development leadership skills based on their personal strengths.
The program is called The Ohio State’s Buckeye Student Leadership Academy (BSLA). It’s a summer program that will take place from June 22 – 25; however, applications are due by February 1. The BSLA program gives participants the opportunity to learn more about themselves and others, helping them find their leadership style and then learn how to most effectively employ that style to be successful in a college setting. The BSLA program is hosted by the Undergraduate Admissions office at The Ohio State University.
In workshops, participants will learn about resources that can support them to help ensure their success. In addition to workshops, the students will meet with faculty and staff, interact with students, participate in sample college classes, and learn about the admissions process and college affordability.
The program is free, though participants are responsible for any travel necessary to and from the Ohio State campus in Columbus. For the length of the program, students are housed in dorms at Ohio State residence halls.
Anyone interested should not delay in beginning the application process. It requires that a teacher, counselor or mentor complete an online recommendation survey. In addition, students must complete the application, provide specifics about themselves, and complete a 500 word essay. Application packets are due no later than Saturday, February 1, at 11:59 PM.
