It doesn’t get more October and Halloween-ish than this!

Step back in time at the Renaissance Theatre next month. The theatre will be showing the 1925 classic silent film “Phantom of the Opera,” underscored by the Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Organ, on Friday, November 1 at 7:00 PM.

Theatre Organist Jay Spencer will provide accompaniment for the film. Spencer has been performing on the Canton Palace Theatre’s Kilgen Pipe Organ for the past twenty-two years, and regularly performs throughout the region as a theatre organist. He is well known in Canton for his skill of playing silent film scores.

The 1925 silent horror film “Phantom of the Opera” stars Lon Chaney as the Phantom who haunts the Paris Opera House. Based on the 1910 French novel “Le Fantôme de l’Opéra,” it tells the story of a deformed Phantom who murdered and created chaos in an attempt to achieve stardom for the woman he loved, Christine Daaé.

The story has become a modern classic thanks to the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical of the same name; however, the silent film was extremely popular in the 1920s, grossing over $2 million at the box office in 1925.

Tickets are $5, general admission, and available on RenTickets.org, or at the Renaissance Box Office, by calling (419) 522-2726 and at the door.
