Symphony Chorus Announces New Interim Director, Rehearsals, And Program

The Mansfield Symphony Chorus is eager to announce the appointment of Brian Nabors as interim director of the ensemble through the end of the 2018-2019 OhioHealth Symphony Series season. Nabors will lead the group in preparation for the May 12 “Joyous Finale” concert with the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra.

The first half of the May concert will feature music from Renaissance Artistic Director Michael Thomas’ original production Sentimental Journey, a reflective tribute to the sacrifices of “the greatest generation,” using songs, narration, and letters from the front of the World War II era. More…

Five Soloists To Rock The Ren With The MSO

On March 24 at 8 PM, the Mansfield Symphony will do something it has never done before: it will perform rock music with local singers. The orchestra ran an online contest in the winter to find talented local singers, who submitted a video of themselves singing a rock or pop song for online voting. Following submission, fans voted to select the top ten finalists, who were narrowed down to five soloists selected by the Mansfield Symphony artistic staff to perform on the concert. More…

Final Teddy Bear Concert Of The Season To Feature Peter And The Wolf

The Renaissance Theatre will hold its final Teddy Bear Concert of the 2017-2018 Mechanics Bank Education Series on March 18, 2018.  The concert is entitled the “Peter and the Wolf” and features an original script by Michael Thomas performed by Renaissance Theatre actors Maddie Beer and Colton Penwell alongside a string quartet from the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra. Talented Rescue Dogs To Perform

“Mutts Gone Nuts,” a talented troupe of rescued dogs and their trainers, will perform at the Renaissance Theatre on Saturday, March 17 at 7 PM. The family-friendly show will feature a range of tricks and humor, lauded by the Washington Post as “A Must See.”

Along with the ten canine stars, the show is led by trainers Scott and Joan Houghton, Samantha Valle, and Jonathan Burns. Scott and Joan Houghton have been performing together as a duo since 1984. More…

Paris Coming To The Renaissance

The Renaissance Theatre’s Richland Bank Broadway Series will present a fully-staged production featuring live orchestral accompaniment of The Hunchback of Notre Dame March 3-4, and 10-11, 2018. This is an area premiere of the musical.

Directed by Michael Thomas and based on the Victor Hugo novel, with songs from the Disney animated feature, “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” showcases the film’s Academy Award-nominated score, as well as new songs by Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast) and Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell). More Stephen King On Tap At The Ren

The Renaissance Theatre will show the second film in its year-long Stephen King Film Festival, “The Dead Zone,” on February 15, 2018 at 7 PM. The festival launched last week with a screening of “The Shawshank Redemption” during the theatre’s Ninetieth Anniversary Celebration. Weekly Improv Class Offered For High School Students

The Renaissance Education Department announces that it will again offer its Improv Underground program, a free theatre improvisation course. Improv Underground classes focus on building basic improv skills through group activities, and are open to all students between the ages of 14 and 19. Renaissance Seeking Singers For Upcoming Musical

The Renaissance Theatre is seeking sopranos, tenors and basses to perform in the onstage choir for their March production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame. No memorization is required, but experience singing with a choir is preferred.

Rehearsals are January 30, 31, February 1, 21, 22, 26, 27, 28, March 1, 2 and 9 from 6-10 PM and February 25 from 12 PM-4 PM. Performances are March 3 and 10 at 8 PM and March 4 and 11 at 2:30 PM. The Renaissance Theatre will hold auditions for the Mansfield Youth Theatre production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on Saturday, February 17 from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM and on Monday, February 19 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the Renaissance Theatre, 138 Park Avenue West in downtown Mansfield.  Those auditioning must be between the ages of 10 and 18 during the 2017-18 school year.
