At least three Richland County school districts are making substantial investments in the future of local education through projects to construct new buildings, renovate others, and build new athletic facilities.
Students in Shelby, Ontario, and Lexington will be benefiting from the changes over the coming years. Here are recent images from each project.
In Shelby, two such efforts are underway. The new Preschool through 8th grade building will house 1500 students and will combine current enrollments at Auburn and Dowds Elementaries, Little Whippets Preschool, and Shelby Middle School. More…

Shelby City Schools announced exciting news earlier this week.
Site work has started on the new PreK-8 school building, which is being constructed on a ten acre site behind the Middle School.
The building was designed by Garmann Miller Architects of Minster, Ohio. The firm has been hired by school districts in Liberty Center, New Bremen, Dublin, Greenville, and other Ohio communities to design similar structures. More…

A housing developer has announced pre-leasing opportunities for 84 housing units on a 25.89 acre Mansfield site.
Redwood Living, Inc. (Redwood) is constructing the new residences which will range from 1,294 to 1,620 square feet in size. In order to prepare the site, Redwood had to mitigate the impact of depositing clean fill material into wetlands and two streams. This was accomplished through an in-lieu fee mitigation where the developer purchased wetland credits which, in turn, will be used to benefit other natural areas. More…
It took some time for the former Ocean Buffet to meet the wrecking ball, but its replacement is rising quickly in its place at 944 Lexington-Springmill Road.
Work is underway on a strip mall that will house five or six retail outlets. At this time, the only known occupant will be a Panda Express, although Five Guys Burgers and Fries has expressed interest in the center. In an announcement on its website, the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library recently shared news of a change in the way that patrons access the building’s parking garage.
Consistent with the original 1989 plan which was changed before construction, the Board of Trustees voted to move the entrance “around the corner,” as it were, placing it on Third Street. Preparation work has begun on the project. During construction, the parking garage will remain open. More…
