Yes, that is pyrate with a “y,” just like tyger with a “y.”

This year we’re continuing our weekly look at unique festivals, events, and attractions that are within an easy driving distance of the Mansfield area. We call these “Summer Road Trips.” One of the perks of living in north central Ohio is its proximity to world-class entertainment, sporting opportunities, and more.

Of course, we want to share that there are many extraordinary places to visit right here in Richland County this summer and encourage our readers to get out and experience what is on offer in our own backyard. In fact, this year we are traveling across the country at the suggestion of Richland Source and its “2019 Summer Bucket List” (in fact, we have checked more than once off already this month).

If your family is in the mood for some buried treasure fun, here’s something to do later in June which is an easy drive from greater Mansfield.

Put-in-Bay‘s 11th Annual Pyrate Fest takes place from June 21 to June 23. There, experience the return of the Pyrate King on his quest to find his stolen treasure.

  • On Friday night, the Pyrates invade the downtown harbor and hoist the Pyrate Flag in DeRivera Park.
  • Saturday has fun actives for the whole family, including a Kids Costume Contest, an Adult Costume Contest with the winner headed on a vacation, and a Pyrate parade winding its way through downtown.
  • Sunday is the annual Kids Fest and the fourth annual 5k Pyrate Run and Walk benefiting Stein Hospice. Pyrate Village with Pyrate Marketplace, Faire Wynds Circus, historic displays and re-enactors all dressed in their pyrate gear. Dress up yourself and join in the fun!

Every day, experience a Pyrate marketplace, displays, a kids’ fun fest, and a black powder firing demonstration. Learn sword fighting techniques and even the art of skullduggery. Kids can practice with foam swords.

Fore more information, including travel directions to Put-in-Pay, visit the festival website here. A video foretaste of the fun to be had is below.
