Are you a descendant from one of the pioneer families in the Mansfield area? And, perhaps just as importantly, can you prove that connection?
If so, you could be eligible for membership in that limited number of individuals who are members of the First Families of Richland County. Sponsored by the Richland County Genealogical Society, this is a lineage society that honors members whose ancestors who lived within the original boundaries of Richland County before December 31, 1840.
Should you believe that your ancestor resided here and you are a member of the RCGS, you can apply for membership.
This shared, proof of descent is required. The nature and extent of the evidence submitted as proof in the application shall be sufficient to prove that the applicant is directly descended from the pioneer listed on the form, and “sufficient to differentiate between two persons of the same name residing in the same area at the same time.” Documentation must also be provided for each date listed.
If interested, you have plenty of time to get materials together; the next application deadline is June 30, 2018. New members of the First Families of Richland County will then be honored at the Chapter’s August meeting.
