Special to 1812Blockhouse

Classic cars, vintage planes, and country music take center stage in August in Mansfield.  The month is also for fairs, festivals, and one last hurrah before the kids head back to school!

Here’s a sampling of what’s in store thanks to our friends at Destination Mansfield – Richland County.

Festivals Galore

For local flavor, enjoy the Richland County Fair (Aug 7-13), an event some in the community look forward to year-round for the rides and the fair food. Don’t forget to check out the livestock shows & sales and support those who participate in the Junior Fair.

What says summer better than blueberries?  The Lexington Blueberry Festival celebrates their 20th anniversary this year featuring amusement rides, food vendors, live entertainment, a car and bike show, a pageant, a 5K, and, of course, blueberries!

Other festivals to attend include the Mansfield Pride Parade and Festival (Aug. 13) and the 25th Heart of the City Cruise-in (Aug.27).

Art, Comedy, History

The 35th Annual T.S.I.A. (Aug. 20) is back at the Renaissance Theatre with top comedians. Buy your tickets and prepare for belly laughs.

Check out the famous Lincoln Highway Buy-Way Yard Sale (Aug.11-13). Learn a bit about the first coast-to-coast highway history while browsing sales and finding treasures you can’t live without.

Close out summer 2022 with a bang during the Fantastic Final Weekend with so much going on and capture the true feeling of summer with outdoor concerts, a beloved car show, and history flying over the skies of Mansfield! The AirPower History Tour (Aug. 24, 25, 26) brings the sights, sounds, and stories of World War II aviation to Mansfield in this event that allows visitors to step inside historic B-29 and B-24 cockpits when the aircraft aren’t in the air.  Airport Day on August 27 offers a Food truck rally, CAF Airpower History Tours, Kids Zone with bounce houses and inflatables, and free Young Eagles kids flights provided by Mansfield Aviation Club from 10am-noon.

Enjoy the 25th anniversary Heart of the City Cruise In, featuring cars, trucks, trophies and show favorites, music and more!  This year’s event features so much live music at spots throughout the event with Ohio Express, Music Explosion, The Cyrcle, the Outsiders, and Departure: Journey Tribute Band.

Summer Family Fun

If you’ve wanted to see one of the POP! Pictures on the Plaza but haven’t gone yet, the final outdoor movie is Finding Nemo on Aug. 10. The movie will be shown in the new green space next to the Renaissance Theatre. Plan to arrive at 7:30 for activities, with the movie kicking off at 8:30 p.m.

Join a naturalist at Malabar Farm State Park for Farm Fridays (Aug. 5, 12, 19, 26) and learn about the animals in the Main Barn. Don’t miss the Barn Dance Aug. 27th. Learn to square dance to live music with a caller at this free event.

Shop Local

The North End Farmers Market will be open every Thursday (August 4, 11, 18, 24) from 4-7:00 p.m. at the NECIC Urban Farm. Shop for your fresh produce at the Summer Market in the Historic Carrousel District at 3rd Cup Tea each Saturday in August from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Live Music

Mark your calendar for Final Fridays Concert with Live Music at the Brickyard on August 26th. The wildly popular Final Friday Concert Series continues its 2022 season, in Mansfield’s historic downtown Carrousel District, with an all-country line-up that includes: Jose Sanchez, Tom’s Kitchen Table, and County Line. Guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs. Concert begins at 5:30pm.

Combine your love of art and music when you enjoy the Summer Concert Series at the Mansfield Art Center every Friday (Aug. 5, 12, 19) at 7 p.m. Bring a blanket or lawn chair.
