Thirty sixth grade teams and 38 middle school teams recently participated in the Winter Academic Challenge Tournaments sponsored by and held at the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center.

Schools participating included Ashland, Ashland Christian, Colonel Crawford, Crestline, Crestview, Discovery, Foundation Academy, Galion, Lexington, Madison, Mansfield City, Northwestern, Ontario, Plymouth-Shiloh, Sacred Heart (Shelby), Shelby City, St. Mary’s (Mansfield), St. Peter’s and Wooster.

Wooster sixth grade took first place and second place.

Lexington Junior High team took first place for Middle School with team members Melina Shultz, Gavin Dean, Katie Sheridan, Joanna Halfhill, Megan Coon and Maggie Sheridan; the Edgewood Middle School in Wooster team took second place.

Elementary school students in grade 4 will compete in the Academic Challenge again on Monday, March 20. There will be a final tournament on May 15. Fifth grade teams compete March 21 with a final tournament on May 16. Sixth grade teams compete on March 27 and May 15. Seventh and eighth grade teams compete March 28 and May 16. The final high school tournament will be held on March 3.All the events are held at Mid-Ohio ESC.
