Later this month, the OSU Theatre Program is facing a difficult topic head-on.

The Program is presenting “Poof and other Short Works” by Lynn Nottage,  a set of short works and conversation focusing on the subject of domestic violence. It will be presented at 7:30 PM on Friday and Saturday, February 17 and 18, in Founders Auditorium on the OSUM campus.

When a housewife comes to the end of her rope with her abusive husband, she doesn’t expect him to spontaneously combust. Now she has a pile of ashes on the floor, and a life to reclaim.

Lynn Nottage is “known for creating exquisitely crafted and humane works of theater that lure the audience into reconsiderations of compelling, timely concerns” (The New York Times Style Magazine)

The production is offered in cooperation  with The Domestic Violence Shelter, Inc. of Mansfield, Ohio and the Ohio State Mansfield Office of Student Success and Office of Diversity and Inclusion.

According to the OSUM website, the Theatre Program is a division of the Department of Theatre, Film, and Media Arts on the Columbus Campus. Students can start work toward a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre, or they can complete a minor in theatre while pursuing another major field.

The Program offers an Introduction to Theatre course as well as courses in acting, directing, technical theatre, and multicultural theatre. They produce three main stage shows each year and a number of student-directed projects.
