In a unique blend of community, history, and the silver screen, The Ohio State University at Mansfield is all set to host a free screening of the highly acclaimed war film, ‘Devotion’ (2022). The screening is focused on honoring the 70th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice Agreement and is being organized in collaboration with the Korean War Veterans’ Association Chapter #51.
The event, taking place on July 29, offers a dual showing of the film at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Sandwiched between the screenings is a special veteran’s panel discussion at 1:30 PM, ensuring the day to be rich in history, reflection, and respect.
At Riedl Hall, a handicap-accessible space with no stairs and ample parking, audiences will gather to witness this tale of courage and sacrifice from a comfortable viewing environment.
The panel discussion promises to be an engaging dialogue, moderated by Dr. Joseph Fahey. The event will feature Colonel Darren E. Hamilton, Wing Commander of the 179th Airlift Wing in Mansfield, and other notable veterans. This event’s open-door policy invites all interested parties to join, with no reservations required.
‘Devotion’ is an aerial war epic based on the bestselling book of the same name. The film tells the harrowing true story of two elite US Navy fighter pilots, Jesse Brown and Tom Hudner, during the Korean War. Their heroic sacrifices would ultimately make them the Navy’s most celebrated wingmen. The film, directed by J. D. Dillard and written by Jake Crane and Jonathan Stewart, is based on the 2015 book ‘Devotion: An Epic Story of Heroism, Friendship, and Sacrifice’ by Adam Makos.
The portrayal of an intense bond of friendship amidst war has not only made ‘Devotion’ a celebrated work but also an essential piece of viewing for those wishing to understand the sacrifices made during the Korean War.
This event offers a unique opportunity to not only appreciate a critically acclaimed film but also to engage with a piece of our collective history in a very personal way.
