Weekly weekend reports from District 3 of the Ohio Department of Transportation return today on 1812Blockhouse. This year, we’re calling this feature the “Orange Cone Report.”

Each week, we will bring you news of construction projects in Richland, Ashland, and Crawford Counties, as well as updates on Interstate 71 projects in Morrow and Delaware Counties. All of the following work is weather dependent.

ASHLAND

U.S. Route 42 Slide Repair
  • Location: U.S. 42, between Township Road 810 and County Road 700
  • Project: Slide repair (constructing drilled shafts to correct and prevent roadway slippage)
  • Traffic Impact: Single lane closures, traffic maintained at all times
  • Estimated Completion: October 2023
State Route 511 Railroad Repairs
  • Location: State Route 511, just north of U.S. 224
  • Project: Emergency CSX Railroad crossing repairs
  • Closure: Starting Monday, March 27, 2023
  • Detour Route:
    • Northbound: SR 511 to U.S. 224, east on U.S. 224 to SR 58, north on SR 58 to SR 162, west on SR 162 to SR 511
    • Southbound: Reverse of northbound route
  • Estimated Completion: Friday, March 31, 2023

RICHLAND

U.S. Route 30 Major Rehabilitation
  • Location: U.S. 30, from State Route 309 to just east of the 5th Avenue ramps
  • Project: Major rehabilitation
  • Traffic Impact: Lane closures, traffic maintained at all times
  • New Impacts:
    • Crews working on side roads for finalization work, traffic maintained
  • Continuing Impacts:
    • Mainline construction resumes first week of April, weather permitting
    • Signal at SR 39 in flash mode, full operation in a couple of weeks
    • Work at SR 13 and Longview Ave intersection, temporary loop detection installation
  • Estimated Completion: May 2023
U.S. Route 30 Minor Rehabilitation
  • Location: U.S. 30, from the 5th Ave interchange ramps to just past the Ashland County Line
  • Project: Pavement repairs
  • Traffic Impact: Lane closures, one lane maintained in each direction at all times
  • New Impacts:
    • Pavement repairs from Laver Road to SR 603, eastbound and westbound in passing lane
  • Estimated Completion: October 2023
State Route 39 Bridge Replacement
  • Location: State Route 39 in Mansfield, between E. 6th Street and Lafayette Ave
  • Project: Bridge replacement
  • Traffic Impact: Reduced to one lane, portable traffic signals for water line work
  • New Impacts:
    • Week of March 27: SR 39 reduced to one lane for water line work
    • April 17 (60 days): SR 39 closure between 6th Street and Surrey Road/Lafayette Ave for bridge demolition
    • Detour Routes:
      • Northbound: Diamond St/SR 13, SR 13 to U.S. 30 west, exit 129 for SR 39/Springmill St
      • Southbound: SR 39 south to U.S. 30 east, exit 130 for Longview/SR 13/SR 545, right onto Longview Ave, left on SR 13 to SR 39
    • Bridge Demolition Completion: Friday, June 16, 2023
  • Estimated Completion: August 2023
