13 is written for those who are burgeoning toward teenage life, and those who remember it. With music written by Jason Robert Brown, and book by Dan Elish and Robert Horn, 13 dives into universally understood experiences, including the frustration and delights of those tumultuous teenaged times; and is “a grown-up story about growing up”. When his parents get divorced and he’s forced to move from New York to a small town in Indiana, Evan Goldman just wants to make friends and survive the school year — easier said than done. The star quarterback is threatening to ruin his life and his only friend, Patrice, won’t talk to him. The school freak sees an opportunity for blackmail, and someone is spreading the nastiest rumors.

With an unforgettable rock score from Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown, 13 is a hilarious, high-energy musical for all ages about discovering that cool is where you find it, and sometimes where you least expect it. Celebrating just over a decade since its release in 2008, this innovative musical broke the mold on Broadway when it opened at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on October 5, 2008. In an inspired creative decision, 13 was the first Broadway musical to have a cast and band composed entirely of teenagers (including a pre-superstar Ariana Grande). Since its general release into the amateur market, 13 has been performed by thousands of organizations in the US alone.

13 is part of the Mechanics Bank Education Series.
