When Responsible Restart Ohio opening dates were announced, movie theatres were among those businesses allowed to open their doors on June 10.

Very few theatres did so at the time.

Now that there has been time to develop plans to match the guidelines issued by the Ohio Department of Health, July is going to see movie going return to many parts of the state — including Richland County.

Cinemark has announced that the Cinemark 14 Mansfield Town Center complex in Ontario will be showing films starting on Friday, July 10. Other area theatres in the same chain have differing starting dates; the Cinemark Movies 10 in Wooster will open the following week.

When the local theatre reopens, it will do so with enhanced safety measures to protect guests and employees. According to its website, this will include the following among others:

  • Countertops, food service areas, etc. will be sanitized every 30 minutes
  • Reduced seating
  • Staggered showtimes
  • Contactless ticketing
  • Enhanced air filtering
  • No cash payments accepted for concessions

Of course, social distancing will be required. That shared, masks for guests will be “stronfly encouraged” but not required.

There is no word at this time on what the opening weekend fare will be, however Hollywood has a number of big ticket office movies planned for release this summer.

See you at the movies!
