The Renaissance Theatre will present a holiday-themed Theatre Organ concert and silent film screening on Wednesday, December 6 at 1 PM. Theatre Organist Jay Spencer will perform a concert of holiday songs as well as the live score for two silent films: Laurel and Hardy in “Big Business!” and Charley Chase in “There Ain’t No Santa Claus.”
Jay Spencer has been performing on the Kilgen Pipe Organ at the Canton Palace Theatre for the past twenty-two years, regularly performing throughout the region as a theatre organist. He is well known in Canton for his skill with playing the scores for silent films as well as his fashionable socks.
Laurel and Hardy’s “Big Business” was first released in 1929, and tells the story of Ollie and Stanley, two Christmas Tree sales reps who get into an escalating feud with a would-be customer. “There Ain’t No Santa Claus” stars Charley Chase and premiered in 1926. It tells the story of a man with a greedy landlord who steals his Christmas presents and ultimately battle for a long white beard for their Santa Claus costumes.
