While violets that bloom in Ohio are indigenous to the temperate climates of North America; it is their African Violet cousins that will take center stage next weekend.

Mansfield will see many varieties on display as the Ohio State African Violet Society’s Annual Show and Sale is held September 15-16 at Kingwood Center Gardens. Dedicated growers will be on hand for horticultural consultation and periodic programs will be offered over the two day event.

A commercial vendor sales area will be open 9 AM to 5 PM on Friday in the Carriage House, and again from 9 AM to 4 PM on Saturday. This is a great opportunity to purchase hard to find and rare varieties of African Violets, Streptocarpus and related growing supplies.

The African Violet Society of America (www.avsa.org) sanctioned show is a competition featuring plants of cultural excellence from the Society’s members’ collections. The show may be viewed from 1-5 PM on Friday and 9 AM to 4 PM on Saturday.

Entrance to the show/sale is free though there is a $5 parking charge by Kingwood Center Gardens. For more information, contact 937-654-7014 or www.osavs.org
