Madison Local Schools is not just a center of learning; it’s a community that stands united in the face of adversity. This ethos will be on full display on February 15 when the National Honor Society (NHS) hosts a special blood drive in honor of one of their own, London Hamilton.

London, a student at Madison South, has been bravely battling Ewing Sarcoma since December 2022. The blood drive, aimed at alleviating the critical shortage of blood that London and countless others face, underscores the community’s commitment to rallying around its members in times of need.

A Community’s Response to a Critical Need

The blood drive, set to take place at the Madison Comprehensive High School Gym located at 600 Esley Lane, will run from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. This event is not just about donating blood; it’s a testament to the resilience and spirit of a community coming together to support one of its own. The drive is a direct response to London’s journey, during which she has already received 48 transfusions, highlighting the acute shortage of available blood.

How to Participate: Every Drop Counts

Participation in this life-saving event is straightforward. Prospective donors can schedule an appointment by visiting redcrossblood.org and using the code MCHS. Alternatively, appointments can be made by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767). The process is designed to be as seamless as possible, ensuring that every willing donor can contribute to this vital cause.

A History of Making a Difference

This isn’t the first time the National Honor Society and the Madison South community have stepped up. On January 22nd, despite challenges such as multiple snow days and a Red Cross delay, the NHS successfully conducted a blood drive, collecting 41 units of blood. This remarkable effort has the potential to save up to 123 lives, demonstrating the powerful impact of community involvement and compassion.

Everyone in the community is encouraged to participate, be it through donating blood, spreading the word, or simply showing up to support those who do.
