From Richland Newhope/RIchland County Board of Developmental Disabilities

Luke Trieber is the newest member of the Richland Newhope/Richland County Board of Developmental Disabilities. Luke, appointed by the Richland County Commissioners, took the oath of office at the Commissioner’s office on Tuesday, January 2.

“It’s an honor to be a part of the Newhope Board and represent those with developmental disabilities. I look forward to working together and being the voice for people similar to me.”

Michele Giess, Richland Newhope Superintendent: “We are thrilled to have Luke join the Board representing people who receive services. We believe he will be a tremendous asset and bring a unique perspective to the Board.”

Luke has worked at Richland Newhope Industries, Inc. Woodshop for 12 years. He has been active in the Special Olympics program for several years. Luke is the third individual eligible for services to be appointed to the RCBDD in its 56-year history. In 2022, Luke received the Self-Advocate CARE (Compassion, Advocacy, Respect, and Excellence) Award. This award is given to a person with a disability who effectively advocates for himself or herself as well as for others. Efforts could include, but are not limited to, speaking engagements, volunteer service, and advocating for change in the community.

Richland Newhope supports more than 1,200 Richland County residents through early intervention, transition services, day services, supported employment, residential, therapy, and other family support programs.
